Situated in the peaceful Lakeland village of Thornthwaite, close to Keswick in the Northern Lake District, Jenkin Hill Cottage Guest House offers a warm, friendly welcome and very comfortable holiday accommodation, exclusively for non-smokers.
Thornthwaite Village rests between Thornthwaite Forest and Bassenthwaite Lake. This is a quiet and peaceful village just 3 miles from the centre of Keswick, an excellent base for visiting the North Lakes, and only a half hour's drive from South Lakeland or the Cumbrian coast, or an hour away from Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall. This is a very popular area for ornithologists, with a wide variety of bird life, a hide for viewing water fowl beside Bassenthwaite Lake and the added bonus of Keswick's popular "Bassenthwaite Ospreys" nesting just a short distance away.
Jenkin Hill Cottage was originally built to accommodate the gardener for the nearby Manor House. The cottage has been enlarged, updated and upgraded to provide high quality guest accommodation and a relaxed, informal atmosphere in a very peaceful garden location. The bedrooms are well appointed and can be booked on a room only basis or to include breakfasts. A stay here can provide the basis of a really excellent holiday. In addition we are able to cater for most special diets, including gluten free.
There is a large car park and well stocked gardens for guests to enjoy, with a wide variety of plants, shrubs and trees. The gardens were awarded a Commended certificate in the Keswick-in-Bloom, 2007 competition, and first prize in the Keswick Country Establishment category in 2010.
Jenkin Hill Cottage Guest House accommodation was awarded a Four Star grading with a Silver Award by VisitEngland for every year 1999 to 2012. In 2013 we decided to participate in the Quality Cumbria assessment scheme instead, and from mid-2015 we participate in Keswick Tourism Association's local assessment.
